2017 Scholarships Available & Career Information

Lake Superior Zoo is hiring for summer employment positions. They will accept applications until April 15th. You can learn more and apply at  http://www.lszooduluth.org/about-the-zoo/employment/ or pick up an application in the Career Center.

March Deadlines:

This reminder is for all Seniors that are applying for scholarships. If you have not already done so you need to give the yellow recommendation request form to the teachers that are writing scholarship letters of recommendation for you. These forms can be picked up in the Career Center or Guidance Office.

This Wednesday, March 22nd during WIN Jody O'Connor from the UMD financial aid office will be in the Career Center to answer students' questions concerning financial aid. Interested students should sign up for the Career Center WIN. 

On March 30th Minnesota Power is hosting a Career Mentor Day. This day is for students  interested in learning more about in-demand, technical careers Minnesota Power has to offer. Interested students should sign up immediately as spaces are limited.


Reminder to Seniors the following scholarships are available to apply for at www.csascholars.org. After filling out the online portion additional items must be submitted in one envelope by the deadline date.

Varsity Tutors College Scholarship Challenge gives students a monthly chance to win $1000 scholarship. Students write an essay on the monthly question, promote your entry on facebook, twitter, and google+, and a winner is chosen at the end of the month. Alert Magazine is offering a $500 scholarship to graduating seniors with a 2.5 or better GPA. The application includes a written essay about a personal encounter you or someone you know has had with drugs and/or alcohol abuse. The Duluth Teachers Credit Union is offering four non-renewable scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each. Seniors that are eligible must be a current member of DTCU or become a member by the application deadline and have a 3.0 GPA or higher. Deadline is March 24, 2017. Applications are available online at http://dtcu.net/scholarships/.

The Brian Laviolette Scholarship Foundation will award the Mike Colalillo Scholarship of Honor to a 2017 Denfeld graduating senior that plans to enlist in the military or pursue a career in public safety or community service (fire safety police science, teaching, nursing, EMT, ministry, and other noble causes.) Applications are available in the Guidance Office or Career Center. The deadline is March 31, 2017.



Members Cooperative Credit Union will be awarding twelve scholarships to area students that plan to attend an accredited college or university in the Fall 2017. Applications can be downloaded at www.membersccu.org/scholarships or picked up in the Guidance Office or Career Center. The application deadline is March 31, 2017.



The Eleventh District Bar Association is awarding one $2500 nonrenewable scholarship to a graduating senior planning on attending a college or university and shows an interest in the field of law or related area. Applications may be picked up in the Guidance Office or Career Center. Application deadline is March 31, 2017.

SFM Foundation provides scholarships to students whose parents were killed or seriously injured in workplace accidents in Minnesota, Iowa, or Wisconsin. The scholarships awarded are up to $10,000 per year, for up to five years. Applications are available at www.sfmfoundation.com. The deadline is March 31, 2017.

The Minnesota Women's Golf Association will award a $3,000 per year renewable scholarship to a high school girl that has been involved in the sport of golf. Applicants must have a 3.2 or higher GPA. Applications are available in the Career Center or Guidance Office. The deadline is March 31, 2017

Great Clips is awarding $250 - $1,500 scholarships to students interested in a cosmetology career. The application deadline is March 31, 2017. Applications are available at greatclipscareers.com/scholarships.

April Deadlines:

Hibbing Community College Foundation has various scholarships for students planning to attend HCC in the fall of 2017. Applications are available in the Guidance Office or Career Center. The deadline is April 1, 2017

The Historic Central High School Museum is awarding one $500 scholarship to a senior graduating from Duluth Public Schools. Application are available in the Career Center or Guidance Office. The deadline to apply is April 1st.

Altrusa International of Duluth is offering two $1,000 scholarships to students that are current community volunteers and have a 3.5+ GPA. Applications are available in the Guidance Office or Career Center. Application deadline is April 20, 2017.

Minnesota Benefit Association Scholarship Program is offering scholarships to public employees or elected officials or their family members that work in the State of Minnesota. You can apply at www.minnesotabenefitassociation/scholarship.org or pick up an application in the Career Center, Room 1212. The deadline is April 15, 2017.

Student - View is offering thirteen scholarships to high school seniors. Winners will be randomly drawn from applicants that complete a 15-20 minute survey about colleges in the area. Students can apply at www.student-view.com. The deadline to apply is April 22, 2017.


The Bluebird Foundation is offering eight scholarships to high school seniors that are involved in theater, dance, or music. Applications can be found at bluebirdfoundation.org. The deadline is April 28, 2017.

May Deadlines:

The Minnesota Association of Townships is awarding $1000 scholarships to up to six Juniors. Applicants must complete an essay on this years topic, Sustainable Water. Students can pick up an application in the Career Center, Room 1212 or Guidance Office. The deadline is May 1, 2017.


Mesabi Alumni Association has scholarships available to students enrolled as full-time students at Mesabi Range College. Applications are available in the Guidance Office or Career Center. The deadline is May 1, 2017.

The Northland Vietnam Veterans Memorial Foundation is awarding the Frank Budd MD Scholarship to a local student planning to enter the medical profession. Qualified candidates are a relative of a Vietnam veteran (including step family) and have a 3.0+ GPA. Applications are available in the Guidance Office or Career Center. The deadline is May 10, 2017.

Arrowhead Youth Soccer Association is awarding two $1,000 scholarships to local seniors that have participated In A.Y.S.A. or other similar soccer programs during their youth. Applications are available at www.arrowheadsoccer.com or in the Career Center. The deadline is May 27, 2017.


Proctor Federal Credit Union is offering two $1000 scholarships to a high school senior that is a member of PFCU. Applications are available at www.proctorfcu.com or in the Guidance Office or Career Center. Deadline to apply is May 1st.
Trinity Masonic Lodge #282 of Duluth, MN will award two $1000 scholarships to graduating seniors planning on attending an accredited two or four year Minnesota school or a school MN has reciprocity agreement with. Qualified candidates must have a 2.5+ GPA and demonstrate financial need. Deadline is May 15, 2017. Pick up an application in the Career Center or Guidance Office.
